Chronos

One of the articles that we went over in class discussed learning to see time as a force that we’ve created. A clock is just an organizing tool for human relationships. Time is something we’ve created (kairos) rather than an external entity (chronos). Chronos is chronological time while kairos is the opportune time for action.

Cronus

As I read the article about chronemics, it reminded me of my Greek mythology class where I learned about Cronus. Cronus is the king of the titans and the son of Uranus. Cronus’s father, Uranus prevented his children from leaving his wife, Gaea’s womb. So, Gaea asks Cronus to help her. Cronus castrates Uranus and the kids exit her womb. Then, Cronus names himself king of all gods and men. Cronus follows ok his fathers footsteps of tyranny and swallows his children, so the mother Rhea plans with Zeus to free his siblings while Cronus tries to eat him. Cronus ends up throwing up all the kids and is defeated by his son, Zeus.
