AntI-Hero by Jerface
Taglialatella Galleries displays an exhibition called Anti-Hero, by JerkFace, which
portrays pop culture heroes from cartoons and comics; the Simpsons, Winnie the Pooh, SpongeBob, Care Bears, Mickey Mouse, Sesame Street, Family Guy, and Tom & Jerry. Jerface uses visual language to create distortions by using geometric abstraction and repetition. Some of the paintings contain multiple characters meshed in one, while others contain repetitive figures of the same characters. For example, one piece had an outline of two overlapping Mickey Mouse filled with segments of cartoon characters such as Care Bears, SpongeBob, and the Simpsons’ donut. While another piece has a repetition of the signature hand pose of the Cat, from The Cat in the Hat, where one set of hands is holding the fish in the fishbowl. Visiting Taglialatella Galleries’ Anti-Hero exhibition was an enjoyable experience; it felt like a childhood flashback and the pieces were vibrant, fun, and visually exciting.
