#29ROOMS

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

-Non-verbal communication is defined as "any meaning shared through sounds, behaviors, and artifacts other than words". Our lungs and vocal chords are the mechanisms that allow us to talk and sing. Non-verbal communication uses sound and smell and our clothes and attitude communicate something towards people.

Another art immersive exhibit that I visited was 29Rooms

- One of the rooms was called “A Feeling You Wear”. In class, we spoke about how what you wear has an affect on how others perceive you. The exhibit was a partnership with Pantene, and it was about how your hair gives you personality and affects your attitude. There were different textures of hair types displayed through art and a ball pit.

-Another room was named “Sonic Sanctuary” where there was music being played with Indonesian instruments and modern day robotics. The rooms is made so that you can totally immerse yourself in a peaceful and tranquil experience. We laid down and listened to the music and took in the moment.

-“29 Questions” was set up so that the people can totally disconnect and make human interactions with strangers. Everyone paired up with a stranger in the room and took in the person in front of them and closed their eyes for 30 seconds. Then, we opened our eyes and were given instructions to go through cards that contained 29 questions. This gave us an opportunity to totally disconnect from technology and make a connection with someone new.

-Additionally, there were scents that were specifically placed in different rooms to enhance your experience. For example, the “Hershey’s” room smelled of chocolate and the “Revlon” room smelled like cherries, for cherry lipstick.

-In 29Rooms, each room communicated a different message. Hair styles affect your attitude and personality, music can have a relaxing affect on you, and new connections can be made if you take a break from technology.
